In the pilgrimage blog our character are going to the Grand Canyon, Arizona. The four characters are gonna be going on a journey for four days to spend time camping, hiking, trying new things, and sight seeing.
The Knight
Day 1: Once I arrive at Desert View Watchtower it was very cold outside. The watchtower was built in 1932 and was base on the architecture of the ancestral Pueblo in the four corners. But now it’s a National Park for anyone who would want to see a beautiful monument. When I went into the tower, I’ve been introduced to something called the ‘kiva’, designed for a rest area and to lookout the small windows to see an outstanding views. Then I had to climb the stairs where many stories imbedded in the paintings and artwork which decorated the walls. On the very top of the tower without decoration which might detract from the beautiful views of the Grand Canyon. The vendors were very nice showing off what they have made. I journey along with my son and two of my other friends. My son, the squire complained all the way because it was so cold and the fact he had to walk along the way to the trading post for extra coats. The nun followed along but this wasn’t for her until she looks toward the forest and seen a group of deer so she got distracted and went to feed the deer. Then the monk with his hunter mentality thought it was okay to kill a deer for food but the nun cried out loud and told him to stop. We all went on with our day hanging out viewing every little detail about the National Park of the Grand Canyon. Time flew by super fast and it was time to head to the Mather campground where we all fell asleep for another good day tomorrow.
The Squire
Day 2: So the birds were chirping this morning, which have gotten so annoying. I woke up the Knight and we decided to cook some scrambled eggs with bacon and sausages. But I just had some cereal and orange juice. The Knight wants to go hiking today, but for me it was gonna be hot and a long walk. The nun was just so obsessed with the squirrels around, while the monk was eating some breakfast. So we all decided to go hiking because what was the point of the trip if we aren’t up for anything. After a good breakfast we packed up and began to head over to Bright Angel Trail. The Bright Angel Trail begins just west of Bright Angel Lodge and range in distance up to 9.5 miles. As we were ready to head down the trail, I seen a mule corral with mules so I insisted to get a lift from the mule to take me down and up the trail but the nun got angry about hurting the mule so I ignored it because I couldn’t ride a mule. So we started hiking down and I was already thirsty. There was some shade, mostly from the canyon walls. But I bought extra water in my bag but that wasn’t enough for all of us. We were lucky there is seasonal water pumps to fill up our water bottles. The nun and I were so exhausted, so we took a 5 minute break going down the trail. While the monk was at the ledge trying to look towards the trail. The Knight said is this a wonderful view to see the Colorado River and Grand Canyon but along the trail making it look very easy to lose track of how far we have hiked down. But additionally, the steepness of the trail is very misleading on the way down. We couldn’t make it all the way down so we turned around half way and started heading back up. We didn’t plan on taking twice as long to hike up as it took to hike down. It was so much harder for the nun and me so we had to take a lot more breaks for us. Finally we made it to the top and I was so tired so we decided to go over to the Bright Angel Campground to book two rooms. And then the Knight ended up taking us into this museum called The Tusayan Ruins, it’s about 800 years old. It’s a Pueblo Indian site located within Grand Canyon National Park. The site consists of a small U shaped pueblo including a living area, storage rooms, and a kiva. Then the Knight said the Tree ring studies indicate that the site was occupied for about twenty years, beginning around 1185. And It is found on the “Desert View Drive” portion of Arizona State Route 64, 3 miles west of the Desert View Watchtower. As it got late, we headed back to our lodge and went to sleep.
The Nun
Day 3: As I woke up to leave for the north rim of the Grand Canyon. I fed the squirrels some food before waking the others. The birds chirping outside is so soothing but the others didn’t quite think so. As they were all packing and getting ready to leave, I was waiting patiently. Finally we left to the north rim of the Grand Canyon on our way to the House Rock Wildlife Area, which is located on the Kaibab Plateau near the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. As we were going to the north rim we stop by the store to get food and water. When I seen a bear fur rug for sale on the floor and seen a deer’s head that’s used for the decorative piece on the wall. Which made me so sad to the point I cried my eyes out then the Knight was there to comfort me while the squire kept making rude comments. The monk was checking out the hunting gear for his next journey. We have got to our destination after hours of traveling, In the distance I see these fluffy, big, beautiful buffalos, it’s something I’ve never seen before. The Knight was just as interested in seeing these buffalos, the squire didn’t really care about this, but he said the scenery was very green and beautiful. As for the monk, he wanted to go hunt them down for meat. But I had to explain to him that the buffalos were going extinct and these buffalos were the last of their kind. So I really liked being on the north rim because of the amazing animals. Being able to see different animals excites me. Then we all left to go to the Kaibab Lodge where we rented a room, we’re so exhausted from these two day and today. So we decided to go eat at one of these good restaurants because we were hungry. After we got done eating it was 9pm. So we all fell asleep early.
